Silent Hill: Townfall Controller Skipping and Double Input

Townfall skips menu options or crouches and immediately stands up? Try the per-game Steam Input check reported by PC players, with a restore path.

Quick answer

If a single controller press skips two menu entries or makes Simon crouch and immediately stand, try disabling Steam Input for Townfall only. Multiple Steam players reported success on September 22–23. Close the game, open its Properties, select Controller and choose Disable Steam Input. Relaunch and test one press; restore the previous override if controls stop working.

Check whether your symptom matches

The original Steam report describes an Xbox Series X controller skipping menu entries. The same player says one B press makes Simon crouch and immediately stand. Other users describe erratic menu navigation. These are repeated-action symptoms, not simply slow camera movement.

The accepted reply recommends turning off Steam Input, and later replies on September 23 confirm it helped. A separate controller discussion contains additional success reports. One participant posted the same two-device explanation in both threads; that cross-post is one observation, not two independent tests.

Change the override for Townfall only

Keep a mouse and keyboard available so you can undo the change if your controller no longer works. Note the current override before changing it.

  • Exit the game and open your Steam Library.
  • Right-click SILENT HILL: Townfall and choose Properties.
  • Select Controller. Under the override for Townfall, choose Disable Steam Input.
  • Relaunch. In the menu, press down once and check whether the selection moves one entry. Then compare one crouch press during normal play.
  • If the controller stops responding or the symptom is unchanged, close the game and restore the previous override.

Why this is a test, not a diagnosis

A player reported seeing both a Fusion controller and an Xbox controller entry under Steam Settings, Controller, then resolving duplicate input with the per-game override. That does not prove every affected setup exposes two entries or that every controller uses the same input path.

The original poster initially thought the problem had gone away during play, then reported that it returned. Check the menu and gameplay again rather than treating one good moment as a lasting fix. The later Steam Input result is better supported by repeated reports, but no controlled device-by-device test is claimed here.

If disabling Steam Input does not help

Restore the original setting and distinguish a controller that is not detected at all from one that produces repeated actions. Record the controller model, connection type, Steam override and whether keyboard input behaves normally. Those details make a support report more useful than “controller broken.”

This page applies to the Steam PC version and launch-period reports checked September 23, 2026. It does not prescribe a PS5 console setting or claim to repair unrelated camera stutter.

Common questions

Should I disable Steam Input for every game?

No. The reported test uses Townfall’s per-game Controller override. Other games may need their existing configuration.

Does a crouch-and-stand action mean the controller is broken?

Not by itself. Several Townfall players reported that behavior improving after a software setting change. If this test fails, restore the setting and record whether the same controller repeats inputs elsewhere.
