Silent Hill: Townfall Save File Location and PC Backup

Open the save folder on Windows

The path reported by Prima Games agrees with PCGamingWiki’s indexed save-location table. It belongs to your Windows user profile, separate from the Steam installation directory.

• Open File Explorer and select the address bar, or press Windows + R.
• Paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\Townfall\Saved\SaveGames and press Enter.
• Inspect the folder before changing anything. Keep all files and subfolders together; this guide does not assume a particular slot filename.

Make a backup without changing your active saves

Copying preserves the current file state. It does not rewind the game or guarantee that the copied progress is healthy.

• Exit Townfall. If Steam is syncing, let it finish; if it reports an error, preserve the local folder before attempting to resolve the conflict.
• Copy the complete SaveGames folder to a separate location named with the date, time and story checkpoint. Use Copy, keeping the live folder where it is.
• Open the backup and check that its contents were copied. Keep previous backups instead of replacing the only older copy.
• To preserve local settings as well, copy the parent Townfall folder. SaveGames holds progress; the separately reported configuration folder is Saved\Config\Windows.

If Windows cannot find the folder

Check that you are signed into the Windows account used to play Townfall. Confirm the title: Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill f use different directories. A Steam installation under another drive does not itself tell you where this Windows user-profile folder is.

If there is still no folder, do not create an empty one and call it a recovery. Record whether the game has ever saved on this account, which storefront you use and whether the previous progress is on another PC. The path above is checked for Steam on Windows; we have not verified an Epic or console transfer procedure.

Steam Cloud conflict: compare the two versions first

Steam shows a conflict when local and cloud files differ and it cannot choose automatically. Valve advises comparing their dates and times with your actual play history. A newer timestamp alone may be misleading after an unsuccessful session. Preserve your local copy before choosing which progress to retain.

If Steam cannot sync, resolve that error before continuing on another computer. If the missing progress still exists on the old PC, check its sync state. Steam Support explains that it cannot recover lost saves. Cloud synchronization is not a guarantee of an older recovery point.

Already missing progress or reporting a corrupted save?

Keep the affected files and any earlier backups separate. First inspect the game’s existing load slots for an earlier working point. If none works, retain the last successful chapter, error text, game version and recent changes for support. We have not verified a Townfall repair utility or an automatic .bak recovery method.

A September 25 player asked for a replacement save after losing progress. That establishes a real support question, but not its cause or a widespread defect. Another player’s file may have different story choices, collectibles and ending progress; it is not a recovery of your own run.

Separate file backups from an ending route

Use the endings guide to plan in-game fallback saves. Copying local files is a separate maintenance step and does not establish which ending a run will receive. If attempting Reject The Help, check its restriction before creating a phone save; making an ordinary backup is not advice to change the trophy route.
