Silent Hill: Townfall HDR: PC Setup and PS5 Support
No HDR toggle in Townfall? Check Windows HDR, understand the reported PC brightness limit, and separate PS5 native output from Always On conversion.
Quick answer
On PC, start by enabling HDR for your game display in Windows before launching Townfall. Independent September testing by HDR Game Analysis reports native HDR on PC, but no native HDR in its PS5 Pro test. A TV displaying an HDR badge with PS5 Always On is not proof of native game support: that system setting also converts SDR.

PC: check Windows HDR before looking for a game toggle
Players have asked why Townfall has no dedicated HDR switch or calibration screen. Check the operating system first. Microsoft’s instructions require an HDR-capable display and HDR enabled for that display; these are system requirements, not a promise about how every game renders.
- Close Townfall and note your existing display settings.
- Open Windows Settings → System → Display. If several displays are connected, select the screen you use for the game.
- Open HDR and check the display capabilities, then turn on Use HDR. If the option is unavailable, follow Microsoft’s linked display troubleshooting before changing game files.
- Launch Townfall on that display. Compare a familiar scene and keep a record of your settings so you can restore them.
Gamma is not a peak-brightness calibration control
HDR Game Analysis reports a fixed 1,000-nit PC peak in its September test. It describes the available gamma adjustment as changing shadows in SDR and HDR, rather than providing separate peak-brightness or paper-white controls. That is a measured behaviour report, not a recommendation to set every monitor to 1,000 nits.
If the image looks wrong, record the display model, Windows HDR state, GPU and game version before comparing another setting. Avoid stacking several display changes: you will lose track of which one affected the result. We have not established a universal gamma value or a guaranteed washed-out-colour fix.
PS5: distinguish native HDR from Always On conversion
Open Settings → Screen and Video → Video Output → HDR. PlayStation explains that On When Supported leaves unsupported games in SDR, whereas Always On converts even SDR games and apps to HDR output. Use On When Supported when checking whether a title requests HDR; a signal badge alone under Always On cannot answer that question.
The independent test linked below covers PS5 Pro, not every console model or later patch. Performance and Quality are separate graphics-mode choices; changing their frame-rate target does not itself establish HDR support.
What this check can and cannot establish
Checked September 29, 2026. Game-specific findings come from an independent analysis with published capture measurements; Windows and PS5 setup instructions come from their platform support pages. This site has not performed its own HDR hardware tests. Community complaints establish the missing-toggle question, not the cause of every display problem. Recheck behaviour after a game update and include your version when reporting a different result.
Common questions
Do I need a mod to check HDR?
No mod is needed to inspect Windows HDR capability or the PS5 output mode. We have not tested the third-party modifications mentioned in community discussions and do not treat them as a required setup step.
Will changing FOV or Letterbox fix HDR?
Those controls change the camera view and framing. Use the camera-settings guide for their documented functions; neither is a verified HDR calibration control.
