Townfall CRTV Cannot Tune Backwards: PC Binding Checks

CRTV frequency only increases after remapping? Check the reported PC axis-binding workaround, back up your settings, and stop if your file uses ActionMappings.

Quick answer

If a custom PC key cannot decrease the CRTV frequency, first compare the original binding. Several Steam players report success with a configuration edit, but only for a matching AxisMappings entry. A separate player has an ActionMappings-only file that does not match. Do not paste the axis workaround into a different configuration.

First separate a binding failure from a signal puzzle

Note whether frequency moves in one direction but not the other. Record your custom key, then compare the original control if your mouse wheel works. The launch discussion reports that the default input can work when a remapped decrease key does not. A broken wheel needs a different input option; repeatedly rebinding the same rejected action may not help.

Community workaround: only edit an existing matching axis entry

The September 23 Steam author reported a fix, followed by success replies from two other players on September 25 and 27. This is community evidence, not an official patch or our own hardware test. The reported folder is %LOCALAPPDATA%/Townfall/Saved/Config/Windows. Before editing, close the game and copy the configuration file to a separate backup location.

  • Inspect your existing configuration in a text editor. Continue only if the keyboard decrease entry is an AxisMappings line with Radio_DecreaseTunedFrequency and Scale=1.000000.
  • In that matching keyboard entry, change the axis name to Radio_IncreaseTunedFrequency and the scale to -1.000000. Preserve your existing Key value and the rest of the line; do not alter controller trigger entries.
  • Save, reopen the game and test both frequency directions in a safe place. Restore the backup if the result is wrong.

No AxisMappings or scale value? Stop here

A September 28 player explicitly reports an Input.ini containing ActionMappings but no AxisMappings or positive/negative scale. That thread does not establish a working conversion. Do not invent a new axis line, replace the whole file with somebody else’s settings, or assume the same edit applies to every build.

Keep your current configuration. Compare an available default input or controller, and report your game version, custom key and configuration structure to support. There is no verified ActionMappings-only solution in the checked evidence.

Read-only files and reverting the change

The original author also marked the edited file read-only. This prevents normal writes to that file, so later control changes may fail to persist. If you follow that part of the report, record it and remove the read-only attribute before restoring your backup or changing settings again.

Keep the backup until you have tested both directions and other controls. After a game update, check the normal binding menu again before reapplying an old workaround. These instructions concern local input settings, not save files; do not delete saved progress.

Common questions

Does CRTV Toggle fix the decrease-frequency key?

Toggle changes how you raise or lower the device. It is not the same action as tuning down. Use the keyboard guide for Hold versus Toggle and the checks above for a one-direction tuning failure.

Is this an official fix for every PC version?

No. It is a reported workaround with multiple player confirmations and a documented configuration mismatch. The checked posts do not identify a universal supported build number.
