Silent Hill: Townfall Developer: Screen Burn

Silent Hill: Townfall is developed by Screen Burn, formerly No Code. Separate the studio, publishers, director, and audio contributors.

Quick answer

Screen Burn, the Glasgow studio previously known as No Code, develops Silent Hill: Townfall. Annapurna Interactive and Konami co-publish it. Jon McKellan is identified as the game’s writer and director in the developer’s PlayStation Blog reveal.

Why older coverage says No Code

No Code and Screen Burn refer to the same studio under different names. Konami’s June announcement traces the company back to its founding in 2015 and lists Stories Untold and Observation among its previous releases. An older article using No Code therefore does not, by itself, indicate that Townfall changed developers.

When comparing coverage, use the article date and the role being credited. A publisher appearing on a storefront is answering a different question from the development credit in an announcement. Reading those labels avoids turning a change of name, or a shortened store listing, into an unsupported production story.

The studio’s design priorities

In the February reveal, McKellan connects Townfall to the team’s experience with narrative design and older electronic interfaces. The CRTV is the clearest example: a familiar-looking piece of technology becomes something the player actively investigates with. First-person presentation serves that hands-on relationship with clues and equipment.

That background is useful if you are deciding what to watch in gameplay footage. Pay attention to how the player examines a space, reads a device, and discovers information. A studio’s earlier games can suggest questions to ask, but their length, controls, and structure should not be treated as specifications for this release.

Follow the credit that answers your question

For creative intent, start with the developer’s own explanations. For regional release details, use the publisher announcement or your platform’s store. For music, the composer credit is more useful than the main developer label: Screen Burn’s separate audio announcement names Anthony Scott Burns, also known as PILOTPRIEST.

The distinction matters when searching for interviews or soundtrack information. Searching only the publisher name can bury the creator’s own account, while searching only an older studio name can surface dated material. Include Townfall and the subject you need, such as camera design or music, then check the author and publication date before carrying a claim into your purchase decision.

Common questions

Does the 2022 announcement tell us how long development took?

No. An announcement establishes when a project was publicly revealed, not when production began. The sources here do not establish a complete development timeline.

Is Konami the developer?

Konami is a co-publisher. The credited development studio is Screen Burn; those responsibilities should not be collapsed into one credit.
